Background

Born in a town of a long forgotten name, Rihec was born as a bastard to a well to do family. His mother had hoped to forget the night she spent with the ebony skinned merchant passing through town, but the son born after would forever be a reminder to her and her family of her brief adultery. With skin as dark as the father, in a family and town of light skins, Rihec was an outcast the moment he arrived. He grew up scorned by those who should have loved him, and isolated by most of the town who were set in their ways. A half-brother was born a couple years later, and his mother and step-father doted on the lad who was deemed the true heir to the family estates, leaving Rihec to the care of the servants. He frequently found himself getting into fights with the other children of the town, and was a very angry child. His lashing out behavior in turn resulted in harsh punishments from his family. He spent the time he was alone watching the townsfolk and learning their habits; of particular fascination to the boy was watching the hunters and how the prey they brought back would be cleaned and prepared. He ran away from home when he was 14, after finally having enough of the biggest bully in town. He beat the older kid down, almost killing him after getting the jump on him, then returned home to grab some things and leaving. He never looked back, leaving even his name behind.

He just made it to a city on the supplies he had, and he proceeded to live in the shadows of the slums, watching how the other street urchins survived. He remained nameless, deciding he wouldn't allow himself to have a name until he had proven something to himself. What it was, he didn't yet know. For two years he survived on the streets, gaining a reputation amongst the other kids for his silence and volatile nature. As well as an increasing hatred for humankind. One day, shortly before his 17th birthday, Rihec was caught by a ranger he had tried to steal coin from. Impressed by Rihec's fighting spirit, she took the lad under her wing. For the next several years she trained Rihec in the ranger ways, giving him a way to channel his anger. Once she felt she had taught the lad all she could, they went their own separate ways in the world. At least, that's what he tells anyone who asks about her. The ranger had been the first real "family" Rihec had ever had, and while it took a couple years for him to finally open up to her, she was the first he could call a friend. She gave him the love of a mother for her son that his birth mother had denied him. It was at that time that Rihec finally took up the name that he would forever be known by.

For years, he has wandered the land and survived off of it, putting his skills to work as a savage bounty hunter. He enjoyed hunting down humans, and would have continued to do so if life hadn't been interrupted by the odd circumstance of awakening on unknown shores. For all that still remains oddly clouded in his memories, he does remember there being two moons in his homeland.

Description

Rihec is a lithe human, standing at 5'9". He is stronger than he seems, with hard wiry muscles toned over his years of living off the land in various elements and terrain. His skin is very, very dark, to the point of being almost ebony black. His hair, shaven on both sides of his skull and the rest a tangle of very fine braids that reach about halfway down his shoulder blades, and is usually tied back with a strip of leather. A couple thin small scars are scattered over his face, which has a narrow jaw and high cheekbones. His narrow eyes are vibrant and display sectoral heterochromia; being that while both eyes are a stunning amber, his right eye has a couple dots of ice blue, and his left eye has a large splotch of blue that covers almost half the iris. Rihec favors clothes on the black spectrum of colors, as such he tends to look like a living shadow. He sports pretty typical ranger clothing, with well worn kneehigh boots, a tunic covered with a leather vest, breeches, and a multipurpose large rectangle cut of black fabric that can be used as a scarf that he can pull over his nose and mouth, or various other ways depending on how he wraps it around his neck and shoulders. His gloves cover all his fingers except the pinky and thumb on his right hand, and the last three fingers of his left. He has various small pouches on the straps and belts he carries his weapons on, filled with random small things he finds useful. Or is just collecting, and one pouch in particular is host to a very special prize that he never shows anyone the contents of. This ranger is usually never seen without his weapons on him, as he's not one to easily relax around so many people. Rihec has one shortsword strapped to his back, another on his right side hip. His quiver of arrows hangs on his left hip, and his extremely well cared for longbow is carried across his back. Rihec is often seen on the fringes of the camp; either patrolling or simply getting away from the crowd, rarely interacting with the others but always watching and listening. He hardly speaks unless forced to, so don't take it personally if he growls or snaps at you. He's still learning how to be part of a team.
